CrateMate is made by James Campbell. This page explains, in plain English, what information we collect and what happens to it.

When you apply for the beta

The form on this site asks for:

• your email address,
• your Instagram username,
• which DJ software you use, and
• roughly how many tracks you have (optional).

We use this only to choose beta testers, to email you about the beta, and to contact you about CrateMate. Your details are stored with our email service, Kit (kit.com), which is based in the United States. We don't sell your details or share them with anyone else.

Choosing testers means someone looks at your answers, and that includes your public Instagram profile. If you're picked, we'll email you an access code. If you'd rather we delete your details, or you want to see what we hold, email james@djjamescampbell.com and we'll sort it.

When you use the app

• Your music library stays on your Mac. CrateMate reads the folders you choose and keeps its own list on your computer. It doesn't upload your library.
• Finding similar music. To suggest tracks, the app sends the artist and title of the track you're mixing from to Deezer and Last.fm, and gets back similar songs. It sends nothing else about your library.
• Your access code is stored in your Mac's secure storage (Keychain) and checked on your Mac.
• CrateMate doesn't include advertising or usage-tracking tools.

This website

This site has no advertising or analytics cookies. It's hosted by Netlify, which keeps ordinary server logs (such as your IP address and the pages you open) to run the service. The text font loads from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the page opens.

Your rights

You can ask us to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or object to us emailing you, at any time. Every email we send you has an unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply and ask.
